The football season is about to begin, which means that  it is almost time for a new Madden game to be released as well. The Madden NFL franchise has been huge since the 1990′s when it first hit off on the 16-bit consoles and have just become more popular with time. While oftentimes criticized in recent years for charging $60 a year for nothing more than roster adjustments, a new reason to buy Madden 2013 has been given to gamers.

Madden 2013 has been confirmed for the Nintendo Wii U. While the games have been made popular on standard control pads, the Wii U gam pad offers a new degree of game play never before seen for the franchise. As part of EA’s commitment to Nintendo’s upcoming console, Madden 13 has been set to fully utilize the new gaming technology. The game pad has been stated to give the player an option for play calling, personnel management, adjustments to their play prior to the snap, creating custom hot paths for their players by simply drawing paths on the pad during offense and making fast adjustments when on defense. Past versions of Madden offered audibles, but to do so always have required screen interruptions and could take a bit of time, making these new features essential for serious Madden gamers.

In addition to bringing Madden to the Nintendo Wii U, EA has also stated that FIFA 2013 will be making its debut on the Wii U as well. As of yet, no release date has been confirmed for the Wii U versions, but the Sony Playstation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360 versions for Madden 2013 are due out on August 28th.

Do you think this style of game play will be better for Madden? Or are you a fan of the traditional controller game play? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
